NiXiE'S x VK: Zoë Mc Pherson's String Figures + Rattle

Zoë Mc Pherson

Zoë Mc Pherson is a producer, vocalist, performer and String Figures’ artistic director.

Always on the road, Zoë's travels and research result in exploring the liminal space between universes : organic vs. electronic, folk vs. futurism, ancient vs. contemporary and dance vs. experimental music. After spending the past few years making anthropological researches about Inuit cultures and Kurdish feminism, Zoë created "String Figures", an audiovisual album in 7 chapters with a vinyl release in March 2018 via SVS records.

Rattle focuses almost exclusively on drums and more drums, beneath a delicate overlay of vocal harmonies and percussive effects. Formed by Katharine Eira Brown (Kogumaza) and Theresa Wrigley (Fists), Rattle began as an experiment in crafting rich songs and melody, weaving post-punk, minimalism and experimental rock, through off-kilter rhythms, patterns and counter melodies. Rattle's self-titled debut album yielded support acts for Animal Collective, The Julie Ruin and Protomartyr. Hypnotic, monastic and surprisingly danceable.
