Curve was an alternative rock duo formed in 1991 in England, UK. The band members were Toni Halliday (singer, songwriter) and Dean Garcia (bass, electric guitar, programming, production). Their sound was a mix of alternative rock, shoegaze and electronic. Halliday is a singer-songwriter who sang with The Uncles and Bonk in the early 80s. Guitarist and producer Garcia played bass guitar on Eurythmics’ “Touch” and “Be Yourself Tonight” albums, and the two were introduced to each other by Dave Stewart of Eurythmics.

This might have contributed to the band getting a contract with the seminal electronic label Warp Records in 1994.

During their nine year career they released four long playing albums and twelve singles.They were equally well known for their skill as producers and re-mixers of songs by others as they were for their own music. The two core members were Danny Briottet and Gary Asquith, both former members of Mass. Karl Bonnie was a founding member but quit in 1990 after the release of their debut album. Asquith had also previously served with early 4AD signing, Rema-Rema.

Dubstar was formed by Sarah Blackwood, Steve Hillier and Chris Wilkie in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, 1992 after being discovered by a fellow North East UK-based manager and producer, Graeme Robinson. Robinson renamed the band, which had previously gone by the name ‘The Joans’. After Robinson produced the material for the band’s first album and had brought the tapes to the attention of Food Records’ Andy Ross, the band were signed to the EMI off-shoot in November 1994. They released three albums: Disgraceful, Goodbye, Make It Better before disbanding in 2000.

Test Dept were an industrial music band formed in New Cross, London, by Paul Jamrozy, Graham Cunnington, Angus Farquhar, Paul Hines and Toby Burdon. Formed in 1981, they utilised the waste debris from the local scrapyards to create a sonic arsenal from recycled scrap metal. Their exploration of tonality was fused with experimental electronics and early sampling technology, film and slide montaged visuals, as well as combining traditional instruments, notably bagpipes from Alistair Adams. They are hailed by many musicians as one of the most influential early industrial music acts.

Cécile Schott was born in France and began making music under the name Colleen in 2001, after a friend gave her a CD-R with the ACID Pro music production software contained within. Samples were a common part of her early work and in summer 2003 the debut album Everyone Alive Wants Answers was released. It was notable for its heavy use of looped samples, which were taken from records in her collection and heavily modified. The album was critically well-received and drew enough attention to warrant touring.

He snatches influences from his native Detroit: its decay, its fashion and its eclectic music scene.
