He was born in Jones Town, Jamaica.U-Roy’s musical career began in 1961 when he began DJing at various sound systems, eventually working with King Tubby. Tubby was then experimenting with his equipment, in the process of inventing dub music. With U-Roy as his most prominent DJ, King Tubby’s new sound became extraordinarily popular and U-Roy became a Jamaican celebrity.

Renegade Soundwave (aka RSW) was a London based electronic music group formed in 1986 and disbanded in 1995. During their nine year career they released four long playing albums and twelve singles.They were equally well known for their skill as producers and re-mixers of songs by others as they were for their own music. The two core members were Danny Briottet and Gary Asquith, both former members of Mass. Karl Bonnie was a founding member but quit in 1990 after the release of their debut album. Asquith had also previously served with early 4AD signing, Rema-Rema.

Radical Dance Faction (RDF) were founded by Chris Bowsher in Hungerford, UK, 1986, and were originally known as Military Surplus. The band experienced many line up changes, and Chris remained the only original member up to the time RDF split up (sometime in the late 1990’s). RDF’s music combined punk, dub, and ska, while Chris’ lyrics, spoken rather than song, dealt mainly with political issues, such as the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 in the song Chinese Poem. Chris also witnessed first hand the Hungerford massacre, describing his experience in Hot on the Wire.
