U-Roy (born Ewart Beckford September 21, 1942) is a Jamaican musician also known as The Originator and Hugh Roy. He was born in Jones Town, Jamaica.U-Roy’s musical career began in 1961 when he began DJing at various sound systems, eventually working with King Tubby. Tubby was then experimenting with his equipment, in the process of inventing dub music. With U-Roy as his most prominent DJ, King Tubby’s new sound became extraordinarily popular and U-Roy became a Jamaican celebrity.

Lucky Dube (born August 3, 1964, died October 18, 2007) was a South African reggae musician from Johannesburg. He was named Lucky because when he was born in poor health, and the doctors thought he would die. But he survived, so was named Lucky. In his youth, Lucky lived with many different family members, singing in bars and in church. He eventually formed a band with some friends, but they could not afford to purchase instruments. Eventually, Lucky wrote a play which he and his bandmates performed, earning enough money to buy a guitar.

Macka B is a British-born reggae artist, performer and activist with a career spanning almost 30 years in the United Kingdom and Jamaica. He is also a practicing Rastafarian. On leaving school, Macka B became a technical apprentice for Ever Ready GB Ltd, made redundant three years later due to the factory closure. In 1980 completed an engineering inspection course. Macka B has always been interested in music. At school, he played the violin, and also joined the school choir. Bush Chemists are Dougie ‘Conscious’ Wardrop & Chazbo. Dougie started making tunes with Centry in the late 80s, which led to the start of his label and studio Conscious Sounds. After Centry disbanded, Dougie set up his own studio and started producing or co-producing tunes under the names Bush Chemists (with Chazbo), East Meets West, Hydroponics and The Dub Specialists (with Love Grocer) as well as being the main mixing engineer for Jah Warrior.

IJahman Levi (born Trevor Sutherland in Christiana, Manchester, Jamaica) on June 21, 1946 is a reggae musician. His first album, Haile I Hymn, was released on Island Records in 1978. He became Ijahman Levi after a religious conversion to the Rastafari movement when he was in prison between 1972 and 1974. He was named Lucky because when he was born in poor health, and the doctors thought he would die. But he survived, so was named Lucky. In his youth, Lucky lived with many different family members, singing in bars and in church. He eventually formed a band with some friends, but they could not afford to purchase instruments. Eventually, Lucky wrote a play which he and his bandmates performed, earning enough money to buy a guitar.

THE CONGOS est le nom d'un groupe de reggae roots jamaïcain formé en 1977 par Cedric Myton et Roydel 'Ashanti' Johnson. Ce duo est repéré par Lee 'Scratch' Perry. Accompagné du baryton Watty Burnett il enregistre la même année 'Heart of the Congos' dans les studios Black Ark à Kingston.

HOLLIE COOK (la fille de Paul Cook, émérite batteur des Sex Pistols) grandi au son de Marc Bolan, The Cure, David Bowie mais va très vite s’intéresser au rocksteady, au reggae et se prendre de passion pour des chanteuses comme Janet Kay ou Phyllis Dillon. Hollie voue également un culte aux groupes féminins des années 60. D’ailleurs, sa mère Jennie fut la chanteuse des Belle Stars et Hollie sera également un long moment membre des Slits.

MIDNITE est créé dans les années 90 par les deux frères Benjamin : Ron et Vaughn. Midnite s'est forgé une solide réputation dans le conscious reggae. En tant qu'authentiques rastas, leur musique est dédiée au Tout Puissant. Alors que l'on pourrait s'attendre à un roots reggae, leur musique est ouvertement cross-over. Empruntant au dub, au hip hop, au roots, ou au dancehall, elle est difficilement qualifiable. Sous le nom de Midnite, le groupe a sorti 7 albums à ce jour.
